The africaFISH team consists of experienced aquaculture, business and development professionals sourced from its founders, BusinessMinds and the University of Stirling. The team has succesfully proven its track record in establishing and managing large-scale enterprises and projects in Africa.
BusinessMinds BV is a company based in the Netherlands with extensive experience of establishing sustainable businesses in Africa including major agro-processing start-ups. In 2008, BusinessMinds established africaJUICE a company that aims to become a major producer and exporter of juice products from Africa (www.africajuice.com). africaJUICE’s first project is the Upper Awash Project in Ethiopia which is already operational and employing over 2000 people. Investment of over USD 20 million in the next 5 years will see africaJUICE become the first Fair Trade tropical fruit juice producer in sub-Saharan Africa with an annual turnover of around USD 40 million.
University of Stirling is one of UK’s leading universities. The university incorporates a number of faculties that are directly involved in the development of africaFISH:
- The Institute of Aquaculture is one of the world’s leading centres of aquaculture teaching, research and expertise incorporating significant operational experience. The Institute was founded 35 years ago and now has more than 110 staff and 120 postgraduate students. The team has over 30 years’ experience in Africa and direct involvement in key strategic programmes across the continent, as well as international knowledge on markets for key African aquaculture products. The Institute of Aquaculture directly manages three fish farms.
- The Institute for Retail Studies and Stirling Management School have extensive experience in developing marketing and retail strategies in both developed and developing countries.
